A psychological support meeting for earthquake victims’ families and their children was held in cooperation with Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Hospital and Üsküdar Municipality. At the meeting held as part of the Families at the University Project, Clinical Psychologist Çiğdem Demirsoy and Özgenur Taşkın, Specialist Clinical Psychologist from NPİSTANBUL Hospital, chatted with the families of earthquake victims. Specialist Clinical Psychologist İnci Nur Ülkü supported the children with play therapy.
A psychological support meeting for earthquake victims’ families and their children was organized by Üsküdar Municipality and NPİSTANBUL Hospital experts at Üsküdar Municipality Disabled Life Center. Experts met with the families affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes and their children.
In the program organized within the scope of the sustainability and social contribution of the Families at the University Project, implemented in cooperation with Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Hospital, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Çiğdem Demirsoy from NPİSTANBUL Hospital and Specialist Clinical Psychologist Özgenur Taşkın chatted with families of disaster victims, mostly from Hatay and Kahramanmaraş.
Challenges must be overcome by sharing
Specialist Clinical Psychologist Çiğdem Demirsoy touched upon the magnitude of the disaster and the trauma it caused and touched upon the traces left by the difficult process we went through. Demirsoy noted that this process will be overcome with unity and solidarity to be ensured first in the family and then in the society, and noted that feelings should not be avoided during this process, that these feelings are quite normal and that sharing and expressing the feelings will be beneficial in overcoming the process in a healthier way.
Specialist Clinical Psychologist Özgenur Taşkın also pointed out what needs to be done during the difficult process. Taşkın gave information about living with trauma and the mourning process after losses. Taşkın also demonstrated practical breathing exercises during stress.
In the two-hour program, experts contributed to the positive well-being of earthquake victims’ families. Specialist Clinical Psychologist İnci Nur Ülkü supported the children with play therapy.
