Efforts are being made on innovative projects such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
Osmangazi Electricity Distribution Inc. (OEDAŞ), which provides electricity distribution services in the provinces of Afyonkarahisar, Bilecik, Eskişehir, Kütahya, and Uşak, which are among the leading regions in terms of renewable energy installed capacity in Turkey, is making significant contributions in this field. OEDAŞ Director Muzaffer Yalçın, in a statement on the occasion of the World Renewable Energy Day on June 22, stated, “Through our R&D projects on the international stage, we reduce our carbon emissions, continuously improve our operating conditions, and increase efficiency by implementing innovative projects such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems.”
OEDAŞ attributes a key role to energy management in achieving decarbonization goals. It engages in digitalization and electrification efforts that reduce energy consumption and participates in multi-stakeholder international projects in the renewable energy sector. OEDAŞ Director Muzaffer Yalçın provided information about the company’s renewable energy initiatives in his statement on the occasion of World Renewable Energy Day on June 22.
“We reduce carbon emissions through R&D projects and implement innovative projects.”
Yalçın stated that as an environmentally responsible electricity distribution company, they increase their investments in sustainability each year to minimize the adverse effects of the climate crisis. He said, “In this regard, we carry out projects that provide source diversity with renewable energy sources and ensure electricity supply security. As an electricity distribution company serving in a distribution area that ranks high in terms of renewable energy installed capacity in Turkey, we successfully integrate renewable energy production potential into the grid. Especially through the R&D projects we undertake on the international stage, we reduce our carbon emissions, continuously improve our operating conditions, increase efficiency, and participate in innovative projects in various areas related to electric vehicles and energy storage systems, bringing them to life.”
Increasing the use of renewable energy systems is the goal.
OEDAŞ conducted activities through its PlaMES project completed in 2022, which utilized various energy sources to increase renewable energy usage and reduce carbon footprint.
Under the ongoing FLEXIGRID project, storage systems and charging stations installed in Tepebaşı Municipality’s Yaşam Köyü in Eskişehir are being integrated with the solar panels established by Tepebaşı Municipality. This aims to maximize the efficiency of renewable energy sources and discover methods to alleviate the grid’s load.
The BD4OPEM project aims to develop new services and practices to ensure the efficient management of planning, monitoring, maintenance, and operation processes for the flexible and effective management of energy distribution networks and the integration of future smart grids in the transition to green energy. The goal is to preserve the quality and enhance the efficiency of electric distribution networks.
The BD4NRG project continues its efforts to establish renewable energy sources, achieve energy efficiency, and enhance the role of data in the digitized energy ecosystem.
Continued efforts to establish an information database
OEDAŞ also aims to track multiple unlicensed storage power plant applications made to the company through several EPDK (Energy Market Regulatory Authority) projects related to energy storage systems, which are part of renewable energy systems, from a single platform. The goal is to monitor these storage systems nationwide and create an information database. In this context, testing of load shifting, compensation, and microgrid operations continues in the energy management systems of two existing energy storage systems.
