Critical Role in IRC and Cruiser Class Sailboats: Battle of Boats Ranging from 9 to 15 Meters in Length
Presidential International Yacht Race | The first stage of the Presidential International Yacht Race, organized for the fourth time under the patronage of the Presidency, has commenced in Bodrum Yalıkavak as the Halikarnas 100th Year Cup. Domestic and foreign athletes, sailing on the turquoise waters of the Aegean, are competing in a captivating atmosphere along the Bodrum-Marmaris-Bodrum route. This race, covering a total of 250 nautical miles, will witness fierce competition among more than 450 athletes from 45 teams. In the “IRC” and “Cruiser” classes, the height and weight ratios of the sailors racing on sailboats ranging from 9 to 15 meters play a critical role. The racing teams on the boats consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 15 members.

With contributions from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and the support of the Muğla Governorate, and under the main sponsorship of DHL Express, the organization, coordinated by the Turkish Sailing Federation and hosted by the Istanbul Offshore Sailing Club, held in the tourism paradise of Muğla, also contributes to promoting the natural, historical, and cultural beauties of our country on the international stage. The visual spectacle of the boats in the deep blue waters, closely observed by sea enthusiasts aboard cruise boats, is hosted by the President of the Istanbul Offshore Sailing Club, Ekrem Yemlihaoğlu. He stated, “This year, we are organizing our races in two stages, and the first one is taking place in Muğla. The race is held on the Bodrum-Marmaris route between July 25 and 30. The second one, as always, will be the Republic Cup on October 29 in the Bosphorus, Istanbul. Participation in our traditional event increases every year, which makes us very happy both for our country and for sailing sports. Speaking specifically about the 100th Year Halikarnas Cup, this year’s race is being held with 45 teams and more than 450 athletes. Athletes from 14 different countries will fiercely compete. It will be a very challenging and competitive stage. I wish all the contestants success. They will compete in very hot weather on a quite long and demanding course.”

Yemlihaoğlu also emphasized that their organization contributes greatly to sailing sports in Turkey and that they are striving to reach the top level among the leading countries in sailing. The first race of the program, consisting of four races, will conclude as the “Halikarnas 100th Year Cup” on July 29 in Bodrum Yalıkavak. The race will be completed with the Halikarnas 100th Year Cup award ceremony, taking place at Bodrum Castle on July 30.
