Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu at CHI CI TALKS and MIM CHI 360 during the launch of the “BUSINESS WORLD IN TURKEY” magazine December issue on the historic ship.
The launch event and farewell ceremony for the December issue (25th issue) of the “BUSINESS WORLD IN TURKEY-TÜRKİYE’DE İŞ DÜNYASI” magazine, known for its approach that focuses on sustainable living, the economy, and digital transformation within every business concept, and whose Editorial Directorate is headed by Celal Toprak as of November 2021, was held on Tuesday, December 5th, in the Bosporus, Istanbul.
The event, which took place on the historic city lines ferry, previously known as the “Martyr Adem Yavuz” ship, a 1500-passenger capacity vessel that was built in 1976 at the Haliç Shipyard and began its voyages under the name “Martyr Adem Yavuz,” was a pioneer in interactive publishing. For many of us who have traveled at least once on this ship in the past 40 years, the name might not evoke any memories in the present time, and it may be nice to explain this.
The event included maintenance and restoration activities on the ship, now named “Le Vapeur Magique,” such as underwater cleaning, renewal of deck wood and painting, thickness measurement of the plates for renewal, tank cleaning and plug replacement, chain washing and measurement, propeller maintenance and assembly, valve maintenance and repair, and measurement of crankshaft deflection for the starboard and port main engines. It’s quite a meaningful coincidence that this place, once a meeting point for the newspaper and media world on the ferry named after Yavuz, who was martyred while serving as a war correspondent on the island during the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, is now renewed and named “Le Vapeur Magique.” May his soul rest in peace.
The ship, which hosted the event and was organized by İhlas Holding and İhlas Media Group executives, business people, media press members, politicians, former ministers, and many others, has a gross tonnage of 56 and a net tonnage of 208. It is 58.2 meters long, 10.6 meters wide, and has a draft of 2.4 meters. It is equipped with two diesel engines, each with a power of 750 horsepower, manufactured by Holland, Stork Werkspoor ABC. It has dual propellers and a speed of 14 knots.
Among the participants in this event were Dr. Assistant Professor Ada Beyza Toksoy, Director of Business Development and Communication; Ertuğ Karakullukçu, Former Editor-in-Chief of DÜNYA Newspaper, a journalist awarded for 50 years of service in the profession by the Turkish Journalists Association (TGC) – Burhan Felek; Levent Karadağ, President of the Digital Transformation Platform and Digital Strategist; Hicran Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu, Founder of CHI CI TALKS and a multidisciplinary artist specializing in Energy and Information Contracts, Aykut Altındağ Editor-in-Chief of Maxi Haber, Dr. Bülent Akarcalı, Founder and Manager of Istanbul Bilgi University, former Minister of Culture and Tourism, and Honorary Consul of Honduras; Kemal Akar, President of İMES; Alaattin Büyükkaya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Büyükkaya Broker; Kerim Güzeliş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ariş Diamond; Hulusi Oğuz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oğuz Holding; Gökhan Savun, CFO of Tezmaksan; and Esra Kuştemir, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Taç Porcelain and Kitchenware, among many others who attended this event on the Bosphorus.

H. Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu, who conducts the Chi Ci Talks series in a wide range, including Businessman, Academician-Scientist, Artist, Bureaucrat, Politician, Journalist-Writer, and Statesman, opened doors to Science, Innovation, Energy, Culture, Health, and Art both on TV and in venues. This time, she discussed Turkey’s energy vision with former Minister of Culture and Tourism Bülent Akarcalı in the Bosphorus.
After giving an interview to TGRT during the event, shortly before the ship docked again, former Minister of Culture and Tourism Bülent Akarcalı and Research Diplomatic Press Ambassador, Energy Expert Economist Çiğdem Yorgancıoğlu, who shape the vision and perspectives of the Energy Sector, Energy Markets, and Financing in Turkey, had a short conversation in CHI CI TALKS-CI-ECONOMIC TALKS about Turkey’s economy.
Among his words, Akarcalı drew attention to the importance of Renewable Energy, Solar and wind energy, as well as thermal energy, which is less used, and also highlighted the significant role of Nuclear Energy in the energy supply portfolio. He mentioned his visit to the nuclear power plant in Austria, closed by a referendum in the past, and emphasized his close interest in nuclear energy since the 1980s, stating that experts said that raising the technological level in Austria would not be possible without a nuclear power plant. He also touched on the importance of raising awareness on technical issues such as combustion technology, waste, and radioactive leaks. The former Minister also expressed the need for nuclear power plants in Turkey both economically and in terms of energy supply diversity and security, starting his sentence with “unfortunately,” and pointed out that reactions against power plants are baseless and detrimental to the country.
According to the analysis of AGS Global, one of the reputable research companies in the world, what reflects on the waters of the Bosphorus from the magazine “Business World” in Turkey, which follows the developments in the economy and business world led by Turkey’s leading bosses, after speeches and plaque presentations, the panoramic Bosphorus view inspired the guests. Following the meal, when the wind blew from the northeast, guests turned to drink Turkish coffees on the World Coffee Day, and at that moment, on the bridge, the SOLO IMPROVISED dance by TENHADA MIM CHI 360 winked in the ambiance of the Bosphorus. A part of this dance can be followed from videos in the ambiance of the Bosphorus.
THE 40-YEAR MEMORY OF A CUP OF COFFEE, IN A 40-YEAR-OLD DILAPIDATED FERRY
In addition to producing more content about the global economy and highlighting new start-ups and business models, the magazine, which includes innovative projects covering women and young entrepreneurs, also aims to include special publications for these projects in its 2024 goals. The coffee enjoyment in the final part of this event is related to December 5, when it began to be celebrated as “World Turkish Coffee Day” following its inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2013.
