Famous artist Can Sarıçoban showcased his ten-year artistic journey with the “Decennium” series, meeting art enthusiasts at Gama Gallery. The opening, hosted by one of Istanbul’s leading art galleries, attracted numerous notable figures from the business, art, and social worlds.
At the opening, Sarıçoban’s wide range of works, spanning from classical photography rules to postmodern deconstruction, garnered significant interest. In this retrospective series, the artist presented works that, despite showing great diversity in technique and style, successfully maintained the same creative essence and aesthetic ideal, offering the audience an unforgettable art experience.
“Decennium” brings together works that reflect different periods of Sarıçoban’s career. The pieces showcase the traces of the artist’s aesthetic evolution, offering viewers both a visual and intellectual journey. Throughout the exhibition, Sarıçoban’s experimental works achieve a balanced integrity between classical photography and innovative mixed techniques.
This exhibition highlights the artist’s multifaceted creative process, providing the audience with the opportunity to encounter works that, although produced with different techniques, share a common creative spirit and aesthetic consistency. About Can Sarıçoban
Can Sarıçoban was born in Istanbul in 1987. After completing his undergraduate studies in Chemistry in 2008, he interned at BASF in Germany. He then lived in Paris for five years, where he studied French at the Sorbonne University’s Cours de Civilisation Française and pursued film studies at the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français. He completed his master’s degree at SPEOS Paris Photography Institute in collaboration with Magnum Photos. He solidified his skills by working as a behind-the-scenes photographer during Paris Fashion Week. His first solo exhibition, “Le Paysage de la Solitude,” was showcased in Paris in 2013.
In 2014, he returned to Istanbul and took photography courses at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University for a year. Throughout his artistic career, he has held nine solo exhibitions in collaboration with Gama Gallery. His works have been exhibited at numerous national and international art fairs, including Contemporary Istanbul, FotoIstanbul, Fotofever Paris, and Context Art Miami.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Sarıçoban has also achieved success in academia. He completed his undergraduate degree in Philosophy in 2019 and then finished his second master’s degree at Yıldız Technical University in 2023. In 2024, he began a doctoral program in Philosophy at Istanbul University. He is also continuing his education in the fields of history and visual communication design. Sarıçoban has participated as a speaker in various seminars and has published articles in magazines. His literary works include his first novel, “Düşler ve Hiçlik,” published in 2020, and his second novel, “Diyalektik Rüyalar,” released in 2022.
