Pianist and harpsichordist İklim Tamkan will meet music lovers during her Spain tour, scheduled to take place on October 10, 11, and 13 in Zaragoza.
Fazıl Say’s Dedication: Goldberg in Istanbul
One of the tour’s most remarkable highlights will be the European premiere of the piece Goldberg in Istanbul, composed by world-renowned pianist and composer Fazıl Say and dedicated to İklim Tamkan. In this composition, Fazıl Say was inspired by themes from J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, one of his masterpieces, while also paying special tribute to Tamkan’s harpsichord performances. The piece, released in 2022 under the ACM Music label, garnered significant attention.
Brought to life by İklim Tamkan’s captivating interpretation, the piece reached a wide audience on digital platforms, meeting music lovers on Spotify and iTunes, while its video, directed by Pelin Kaçar, also garnered praise on YouTube. The unique blend of jazz elements and Turkish irregular rhythms in the composition attracted great admiration, especially from early music enthusiasts. The sheet music was also printed and published by Schott Music.
The final concert of the tour will be held at the invitation of Titus Crijnen, one of the world’s most respected harpsichord makers. Known for crafting exceptional harpsichords for the music world, Crijnen’s invitation to Tamkan to perform at this special event adds significance to his 40th anniversary jubilee concert.
Joint Performance by Tamkan and Borsányi
İklim Tamkan’s Spain tour will not be limited to solo performances. She will also share the stage with Hungarian organ and harpsichord virtuoso Márton Borsányi, performing a piece that he has dedicated to her. In addition, the duo will reinterpret J.S. Bach’s harpsichord concerto, offering a fresh take on the classic work.
