In this episode of “Eylu Aşkın İle,” hosted by Eylu Aşkın and filmed at the Bohem Apartment on Lüleci Hendek Street, the guest was Kıvılcım Kalay, a writer, lyricist, and brand consultant, known for her recent popular works. Kalay made strong statements, particularly regarding men.
“Men have become social media men.”
Regarding men, Kıvılcım Kalay stated, “They think they are very clever. For example, they message five women at the same time, just to see what they can get! If you’re only handling things through social media and thinking about breaking up after just one meeting, there’s a problem here.” She added, “We women are much braver than men.”
“I still haven’t proven myself to my father.”
Kıvılcım Kalay explained that no matter what she does, she cannot make her father happy, admitting that he constantly dismisses her work with comments like, “What’s going to come of this?” She said, “I’m sorry, Dad.”
“I love as if I cover them with my gaze.”
Kıvılcım Kalay talked about how, when she lets someone into her life, she tends to smother them with love. She added, regarding men, “But they say, ‘Oh, I was so busy, I couldn’t write,’ and so on. Could that even be possible? Everyone takes their phone with them to the bathroom now. Are you kidding? You’re not a priority, and that’s it!”
“I just want to play games with Masal now.”
Expressing her fatigue with the relationship games men play, Kıvılcım Kalay stated, “I just want to play games with Masal now. I don’t want to play games with men anymore. But what happens at the end of the game? They either call you like in a game of tag or become the seeker in hide-and-seek. At some point, somehow, months or years later, it doesn’t matter, they come back.” She mentioned that she would discuss all of this in detail in her third book, focusing on male-female relationships.
The Third Book is on the Way
Kıvılcım Kalay said, “The last book has been ready for a long time, but I wanted to make some changes in this one.” She explained, “Many of the issues in relationships are triggered by childhood traumas. I wanted to collect examples related to these. That’s why the book has been delayed; it will come out.”
“I write a song in 10 minutes.”
Recently venturing into songwriting and composition, Kıvılcım Kalay shared her thoughts on the songs she’s written: “When I presented my songs, they told me I had created a very old-fashioned composition. Because I grew up listening to Cengiz Kurtoğlu and such. Being a military girl, we go to the hairdresser and ‘Nikah Masası’ plays. We’ve decided to arrange these a bit more.” She also announced that she will share her songs with her fans when the time is right.
“They said stand-up can’t be done in Amasya, so I said I will do it.”
Kıvılcım Kalay, who is well-loved in Amasya and happened to visit the city with a friend, announced that after her stand-up performance with Cem Özer in Amasya, she accepted an offer to join the board of directors of Amasya Sports. Kalay is currently the only female member of the Amasya Sports board.
“I was a child of the doorframe.”
Kıvılcım Kalay, a graduate of the English Business Department, responded to a question about how her writing journey began: “I didn’t have a very calm family. My father was a soldier. His voice was always loud. I was somewhat of a child of the doorframe; I was shy. So, after I first picked up a pen, I started expressing my feelings not by speaking but by writing.”
