They Watched with Laughter, Tears, and Proud Applause
The night began with an opening speech by actress and host Ceyda Düvenci. Throughout the screening, which was filled to capacity with guests, the actors and attendees could not contain their tears as much as their laughter. At the end of the film, the actors and crew, invited to the stage, received minutes of applause filled with tears and enthusiasm. The applause was so overwhelming that host Ceyda Düvenci struggled to deliver the closing remarks, and the actors also had a hard time with their thank-you speeches.
Dilek Türkan, who performed the piece “Kırmızı Gülün Alı Var” featured in the film’s end credits, spontaneously sang the song again on stage with the actors and guests.
With its strong cast and an impactful production that uniquely narrates the era it represents, “A SONG OF THE REPUBLIC” stands among the season’s most ambitious films. Guests at the premiere included Yılmaz Erdoğan, Demet Akbağ, Müjdat Gezen & Leyla Gezen, Oya Başar, Umut Kırca, Hadise, Rıza Kocaoğlu, Ebru Özkan, Ercan Saatçi, Birol Güven, Cezmi Baskın, Salih Kalyon, director Hakan Algül, Cem Gelinoğlu, Ali Sunal, and İbrahim Selim.
