The solo exhibition “Istanbul Fairies” by sculptor Neslihan Demircioğlu meets art lovers at Arthan Gallery from October 26 to November 16.

Curated by Derin Demircioğlu, the exhibition focuses on the sculptor’s series, which she has been developing since 2020, inspired by Istanbul’s mythological and spiritual aspects. This series, featuring the “Istanbul Fairies” that embody nature’s energy and create a mystical impact, takes the viewer on a captivating journey. The exhibition’s location at Arthan Gallery, housed in the historic Kurşunlu Han, establishes a strong connection between the artist and her works, blending seamlessly with the venue’s historic ambiance.

Curator Derin Demircioğlu shared the following thoughts on the exhibition: “Neslihan Demircioğlu’s Istanbul Fairies series symbolizes ethereal, bodiless, and supernatural beings. These entities serve as symbols that reflect the deep mythological elements of Istanbul and world history. In the exhibition, viewers can experience new forms crafted by the artist using various materials, as well as the unique fusion of glass and ceramics used for the first time. These special glass pieces, created in collaboration with glass artist Cem Kılıç, convey the elegance and transparency of the fairies to the audience.”

In her exhibition, Neslihan Demircioğlu creates a distinct artistic language using materials such as ceramics, bronze, copper, and wood. The artist blends mythological, spiritual, and technological references in her works, aiming to offer the audience a multi-layered experience. Additionally, a sound installation designed specifically for the exhibition by Simon Dougé enhances the impactful atmosphere of the pieces.

About Neslihan Demircioğlu: Born in Istanbul in 1972, Neslihan Demircioğlu pursued a career in art after graduating from the Architecture Department at Yıldız Technical University. Known for her sculptural works in ceramics, iron, and wood, she places spiritual and mythological elements at the core of her artistic expression, creating multidimensional works. Her past solo exhibitions include Skies and Roots at Kethüda Hamam and Beyond Time at Metrohan, and she has participated in various group exhibitions in Istanbul and other cities across Turkey.
