2025 will be a year full of key events aimed at increasing the steel industry’s influence and competitive power in international markets. Yalçın Ertan, Deputy Coordinator of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations and President of the Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association, made important statements regarding the objectives for this year.
Sustainability-Focused Projects and Trade Delegations
Ertan stated that in 2025, a variety of sustainability-focused projects and trade delegations will be organized from Europe to the Middle East, creating a significant foundation for strengthening companies’ positions in the global market. In this context, a strong representation will be present at the Made in Steel Fair in Milan from May 6-8, 2025. Additionally, significant partnerships with wind energy equipment manufacturers will be formed at the Wind Europe Wind Energy Summit to be held in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen.
Green Transformation Project Will Shape the Future of the Industry
The Green Transformation Project, set to begin in 2025, aims to drive the steel and non-ferrous metals sector toward its carbon-neutral goals. Through the Green Academy Program, companies’ personnel will receive training on sustainability and green production. Additionally, in line with the EU Green Deal and clean production goals, the project will focus on enhancing management processes and improving productivity.
Preparations for Border Carbon Regulation Begin
Ertan stated that preparations for the Border Carbon Regulation Mechanism will continue with a working visit to Hamburg, Germany, from November 18-23, 2024. The goal is to ensure that the Aegean Region’s steel sector aligns with this regulation, which will come into effect on January 1, 2026, and maintains its competitive structure.
Middle East Market: New Opportunities in Kuwait
After Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait presents significant opportunities for steel industry firms in the Gulf Region. A Sectoral Trade Delegation to the Kuwait market will be planned for May 2025, aiming to help members maximize the potential of these new opportunities.
2025 will be a year in which the steel industry strengthens its position in the global market. These strategic steps will open new opportunities and establish strong partnerships for companies in the sector.
