Focusing on Accessible Banking in order to create a rights-based and accessible banking experience for everyone, Alternatif Bank has implemented the “Accessible Banking Terms Dictionary” project, which is a first in Turkey and in the banking industry. With the project carried out in cooperation with the Society for Social Rights and Research Association (TOHAD) and the Association of the Hearing Impaired and their Families (IED), the Bank has turned into a content series consisting of short videos that explain the most frequently used banking terms in daily life with the support of sign language, audio description and simplified text. brings. In the first stage of the content series, which was designed based on the difficulties experienced in understanding banking terms in the society, especially the hearing impaired, the elderly and people with low financial literacy, special videos were produced for the 28 most frequently used basic terms. The project is planned to turn into a video library covering over 100 banking terms in a short time.
Commenting on Alternatif Bank’s new project in the field of Accessible Banking, General Manager Kaan Gür said, “As Alternatif Bank, one of the basic elements of our corporate culture is ‘people-oriented’. We consider it our primary goal that all the services we offer are easily accessible by everyone within the framework of equality. Based on this understanding, we set out to set an example for our sector so that disabled individuals can benefit from banking services equally, and we implemented a series of applications with the Accessible Banking approach. In this context, one of our most innovative projects has been the Accessible Banking Terms Dictionary, which is a valuable output of the Accessible Banking Ideathons we have organized for university students. Today, a significant part of the society, especially the hearing-impaired, have difficulties in understanding banking terms. Behind this is low financial literacy, as well as the fact that many banking terms unfortunately do not have an exact equivalent in Turkish sign language or have not been translated yet. I believe we have taken an important step towards financial inclusion with our work to solve this problem.” he said.
Alternative Bank’s Corporate Communications Manager Levent Ulusoy, who leads the activities of Accessible Banking, said, “We started our project, which requires an intensive preparation process, by identifying the banking terms that are most frequently used in daily life. We turned these terms into short video contents using sign language, audio descriptions and simplified texts with the contributions of a valuable team of sign language experts, academics and NGO representatives. In this way, we have created a content pool that can be easily understood by different disability groups, especially the hearing impaired. In the project, which we started as a pilot with 6 terms last year, we have now reached 28 terms. We will soon enrich this series with more than 100 terms, making it a glossary that serves financial inclusivity and is open to everyone. Our aim is not only to be an institution that implements the rules in the field of Accessible Banking, but also to be a pioneer in a mentality change in our sector. We will continue to do our part for this.” made a statement.
In Alternatif Bank’s Dictionary of Accessible Banking Terms video series; FAST, Money Order, IBAN, KOLAS, Time Deposit Account, Current Account, EFT, Bank Account, Debit Card, BSMV, Current Account, Receipt, Exchange Rate, POS Device, Statement, Account Balance, Internet Banking, Safe Deposit Box, Housing Loan, Loan Interest, Deposit Interest, Mobile Banking, Withdrawal, Deposit, SWIFT, Vehicle Loan, Value, Virman terms are explained with short films supported by sign language, audio description and simplified text.
