Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Sezen Köse stated that children may have difficulties in regulating their emotions and behaviors during the earthquake process and said, “Our puppies who experience irritability and tantrums may have attention problems, bedwetting, excessive attachment to their mother, clinging, thumb sucking, sleep difficulties in the preschool period.”

Answering the question of what should be done about children who experience physical and mental traumas due to disaster, EÜ Special Education Research and Application Center Board Member Assoc. Dr. Sezen Köse said, “The important point here is that the response to trauma and loss can vary according to the size of the traumatic event, familial, individual and environmental factors. Meeting the need for shelter, nutrition and sleep in the acute period, providing a physical and emotional safe environment, being with family and relatives, spending time with the child, allowing himself to express himself, sharing emotions, answering his questions honestly and realistically, activities such as painting and games together are important. . In summary, it is very important to listen, understand, value your feelings, and make you feel that you are with them and that you are not alone. In the first period, we can say that the most important support is human solidarity.”
Positive and Negative Effects of the Media
Platform President, EU Communication Faculty retired lecturer Dr. Professor Oğuzhan Kavaklı stated that disasters leave deep scars on people at all ages and stated that if the media does not show the necessary care in the presentation of news, it will enlarge the wound in the human spirit. Stating that the number of people who experienced the disaster is also important in terms of the rate of impact, Kavaklı said, “11 million people in the region experienced this pain. 12 journalists lost their lives. In total, the loss of life exceeded 48 thousand. Many journalists worked in very unfavorable conditions and made an effort not to leave people unannounced.”
