Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center organized an event under the theme of “Call to Awareness” as part of Contemporary Istanbul ’18, aiming to protect and sustain the ecosystem by addressing environmental issues such as food waste, environmental pollution, and the climate crisis.
Within the scope of Contemporary Istanbul ’18, Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center organized an event called “Call to Awareness,” aligning with the company’s Travel With Purpose goals. The event drew attention to issues such as water and food waste, marine pollution, the climate crisis, and energy efficiency. Through artistic ironies like water flowing from a tap, melting ice cubes, and a tableau made from food waste, participants were called to raise awareness for the planet’s future.
Rainer Gieringer, the General Manager of Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center, emphasized the importance of sustainability not only for environmental conservation but also for the future of the industry. He stressed Hilton’s commitment to Travel With Purpose and its position as one of the strong brands in the tourism industry with this awareness.
Gieringer said, “Through our electricity, water, and waste programs, we are taking significant steps to reduce our environmental footprint. We encourage guests to choose our ’50 Mile’ menu and ‘Go Hilton Go Nature’ meeting packages, which are created using products sourced from local producers to reduce our carbon footprint. As the focal point of art, Contemporary Istanbul ’18 allowed us to convey how important sustainability is in today’s world and issue a call to action for everyone.”
Alexis Atlamazoğlu, the Executive Chef of Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center, created a modern art-inspired tableau using surplus food to draw attention to food and water waste. Atlamazoğlu highlighted that food and water waste is a significant issue in Turkey and the world, saying, “According to UNICEF, half of the world’s population will be living in regions facing water scarcity as early as 2025. These statistics are not just numbers; they represent the greatest threat awaiting all of us in the world we live in. Therefore, everyone should be aware of their consumption. Through the event we organized, we wanted to showcase the consequences of excessive and unnecessary consumption.”
