Vienna-based opera singer Burcu Kurt takes an exciting step in her musical journey, blending the energy of pop music with the elegance of jazz.
Having garnered high praise from listeners with her debut single “Bir Aşk Meselesi,” noted for its vibrant harmonic structure and theatrical vocal touches, Burcu Kurt now enchants music lovers with her second single, “Funky İstanbul,” in the funk-jazz genre.
Written and composed by Burcu Kurt, “Funky İstanbul” was arranged by Evren Karakul and recorded at Hayyam Studios. The track came to life with contributions from master musicians such as Şenova Ülker on trumpet, Engin Recepoğulları on saxophone, Bulut Gülen on trombone, Ekin Bilgin on double bass, Evren Karakul on piano, and Ekin Cengizkan on drums. The mix and mastering were handled by Aykut Gürel, and the song was released under the İremrecords label on Friday, December 13, across all digital platforms.
Directed by Arif Özçetin, the music video combines the intimate moments captured in the studio with the unique atmosphere of Istanbul.
As a permanent artist with the Vienna Volksoper, Burcu Kurt has performed on prestigious stages such as the Mörbisch Festival, Salzburg Festival, Graz Opera, and Vienna State Opera.
Under the “Frau Kurt” concept, she collaborated with Karlheinz Donauer on numerous successful concert series until recently.
In addition to her classical music background, Kurt also has a history in popular music and aims to bring beloved melodies back to listeners with her songs.
“Funky Istanbul,” with its dynamic structure and retro vibes, is poised to be one of the standout tracks of the year.
