The European Indoor Athletics Championship, which Turkey will host for the first time, will be held with the support of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The municipality will work in many areas, including transportation, promotion, landscaping, and waste management, to ensure that Istanbul hosts the championship in the best possible way between March 2nd and March 5th. A portion of the revenue from ticket sales for the event will be donated to earthquake victims.
The European Indoor Athletics Championship, which is one of the oldest indoor athletics championships in the world, is coming to Turkey for the first time in its history. The championship, which will be attended by over 600 athletes from 50 countries, will take place in Istanbul between March 2nd and March 5th, at the Ataköy Athletics Hall, organized by the Turkish Athletics Federation. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) will provide support in many areas, including transportation, promotion, landscaping, and waste management for the tournament.

FULL SUPPORT FROM İBB
Following the protocol approved by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council on October 11th, 2022, which was made with all parties involved in the organization, İBB has begun its work in the field. They have planned transportation for athletes and spectators to reach the venues. In this context, İBB will provide free public transportation services for accredited athletes, officials, and volunteers. They will allocate 20 buses for transfers between the airport, hotels, and the Ataköy Athletics Hall. Additionally, an adequate number of İBB personnel will be assigned to ensure coordination in transportation.

OFFICIAL DINNER AT SOCIAL FACILITIES
As part of the support provided by İBB, the Florya Social Facility will be allocated for the official dinner of the organization during the event period. İBB, which contributed to the promotion of the event in digital advertising media, will also provide “waste management” support to enable the recycling of waste generated in the areas used during the championship.
Other support provided by İBB during the event includes the supply of between 120,000 and 140,000 bottles of water, landscaping work in the outdoor areas of the venue, control and repair of outdoor lighting, and renewal of the venue’s flooring.

EA PRESIDENT AND ATHLETES MAKE SOLIDARITY APPEAL
Dobromir Karamarinov, the President of the European Athletics Association (EA), announced in a written message published on the championship’s website istanbul2023.org that 1 euro will be donated to earthquake victims from every ticket sold since February 7th.
