Eye health, which is of critical importance for the quality of life of children, is also among the factors that directly affect school success. Fahrettin Keleş, a board member of Lazer Optik and an optician, who says that children who can concentrate in the classroom and read written and visual materials comfortably are more successful in their learning processes, stated that eye problems such as reading difficulties, lack of focus, and headaches, which are associated with eye health, negatively affect school performance.
Especially during the developmental stages, eye health of children is one of the issues that require attention and control. It is necessary to have an examination by a specialist doctor once a year for eye health, which can lead to more serious problems when neglected.
Fahrettin Keleş, a board member of Lazer Optik and an optician, stated that the school age is a period when the visual development of children accelerates. He said, ‘First of all, from the moment babies reach 3 months of age, they should be taken to an eye doctor once a year. This examination is important for early diagnosis of eye diseases or vision problems that can be detected in the early stages. Early treatment can prevent bigger problems in the future. When the school age is reached, children should have an eye examination before each academic period begins. Necessary precautions should be taken and treatments should be applied according to the examination results. Suitable eyeglass lenses and frames should be selected according to the prescription. At this point, reliable opticians and optical stores should be consulted. It is very important to choose the one that suits the child’s facial structure and to make the correct focus adjustment. Moreover, children’s glasses should be compatible with their skin, made of quality materials such as lightweight metal or acetate, without allergens. Low-quality frames can harm children’s sensitive skin and cause allergies.’
Keleş, who said that when the right glasses and frames are chosen and used regularly, they positively affect children’s learning process, added, ‘It can be possible to make children love wearing glasses with the support of parents and opticians. Especially children of school age may not want to wear glasses. In this case, by choosing glasses in colors and models that the child will like, we can make the glasses more attractive. It is important for children to like wearing glasses for the preservation of their healthy eyes
