This book, prepared based on the knowledge and experiences we have accumulated since 1990 in the field of combating violence against women, emerged as a result of the needs we have identified through years of solidarity work with women. We have heard from women how challenging it is when legal support and social work are not informed by feminist social work knowledge and methods. In this context, we have prepared this handbook, which combines feminist social support approaches to working with women and their legal rights in the face of violence, for social workers and lawyers.
The book consists of two sections in different formats, aimed at establishing connections between social work and legal support fields using a feminist method. The first section offers practical information on how to approach women while providing legal support in the fight against violence. Here, for lawyers, basic information is provided on approaching violence, its effects, and women who have experienced violence, from the first meeting onward, in order to ensure sustainable and effective legal support. The second section contains the technical legal information that women frequently need in the fight against violence.
We hope that this comprehensive guide, which will contribute to women’s struggle to break free from violence, will be an enriching resource for social workers and legal professionals.
