Nilüfer Municipality, which met many needs of the people of the region by establishing a container city in Hatay Samandağ, also brought a “Sister Library” to the region. The staff of the Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate, who went to Samandag, both opened the library with the children and brought thousands of books together with the people of the region.
Life continues in the container city that Nilüfer Municipality created in Hatay Samandağ, one of the places affected by the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. Nilüfer Municipality, which meets all the needs of the people of the region by expanding its solidarity network, also brought a library to the container city. Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate, Culture and Social Affairs Directorate, Press, Broadcasting and Public Relations Directorate and Nilüfer City Theater technical team completed the “Sister Library” in a short time and took its place in the Samandağ container city of Nilüfer Municipality.
The Sister Library, which includes a study area, books of various genres for people of all ages, from preschool to adults, and a playground for children, started to serve. Nilüfer Municipality Library Manager Şafak Baba Pala, who went to Samandağ with the Nilüfer Municipality Mobile Library, and the library staff, opened the library together with the children living in the container city. The employees of the Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate, who also performed activities such as drama, creative reading, dance and movie screenings with the children in the container city, gave the children a great morale boost.
The books donated to the campaign organized by the Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate, as well as in its own inventory, met with the people of the region. Nilüfer Municipality Library staff, who also went to the tent cities and field training areas in the Samandağ, Antakya, Defne and Serinyol districts of Hatay with the Mobile Library, provided thousands of reading books, textbooks, test books, magazines, notebooks and stationery materials to these regions. Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate, which has contacted volunteer trainers in the region, will continue to increase its support according to the needs list.
Stating that the support to the region will continue, Nilüfer Municipality Library Manager Şafak Baba Pala emphasized the importance of continuity and said that the donation book campaign continues. Stating that Kardes Library will serve both the container city and the people living in the surrounding area, Pala said, “The library will be open to children and adults for 4 hours a day. Anyone who wants to study and read a book will be able to come to the Brothers Library and borrow books. There are books for children, teenagers, adults, textbooks and reading books in the library. In the places we contacted, we saw that there was a need for especially high school and university exam preparation books. Continuity in work is important. We will continue to support Samandağ,” he said. Nilüfer Municipality Library Manager Şafak Baba Pala said that anyone who wants to donate books and stationery can donate to Nilüfer Libraries between 10.00 and 18.00.
Nilüfer Municipality also provides great support to the feeding of thousands of earthquake victims with the soup kitchen it opened in the container city. Three meals prepared in a hygienic environment in the soup kitchen are offered to the people of the region. Every day, approximately 2,500 people benefit from the Nilüfer Municipality soup kitchen. In addition, the team affiliated to the Nilüfer Municipality Police Department, which remains in the container city, produces instant solutions to the needs of the citizens, while the team affiliated to the Nilüfer Municipality Cleaning Affairs Directorate supports the cleaning works throughout Samandağ.
