Gölcük Municipality organized a torchlight procession as part of the 104th Anniversary celebrations of the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth, and Sports Day. Citizens of all ages, from 7 to 70, participated in the event, which started in front of Kavaklı Congress Center. Gölcük Governor Deputy Ali Ada, Gölcük Mayor Ali Yıldırım Sezer, representatives from public institutions and political parties, as well as NGOs, accompanied the people of Gölcük, who ran in the torchlight procession with Turkish flags in their hands.
FIREWORK DISPLAYS ILLUMINATED THE NIGHT SKY
The fireworks display, which started when the torchlight procession reached Anıtpark, illuminated the sky. The enthusiastic crowd accompanied the fireworks with chants. The event continued at Anıtpark with a moment of silence and the singing of the national anthem. Gölcük Mayor Ali Yıldırım Sezer, who addressed the residents on the stage set up in the area, thanked everyone who contributed to the enthusiasm of May 19th.
THEY CANNOT OVERCOME THE NATION’S DETERMINATION FOR FREEDOM
Speaking to the people of Gölcük at Anıtpark, Gölcük Mayor Ali Yıldırım Sezer said, “May 19, 1919, is the first spark of the national struggle. The Erzurum and Sivas congresses, all of these, happened with the movement of the great Turkish nation with the motto ‘Either Independence or Death.’ The nation’s determination and resolve found a response throughout the country, and in the end, with the liberation of İzmir from enemy occupation on September 9, 1922, the Independence Struggle in our homeland came to an end. However, the aims of imperialists and their local collaborators towards our country have never ceased. However, the feeling I have gained from the enthusiastic crowd I see here tonight is that they can do whatever they want, but they cannot overcome this nation’s determination and resolve for a free and independent life, with the permission of God.”
ATATÜRK AND HIS COMRADES-IN-ARMS WERE NOT FORGOTTEN
Mayor Sezer stated, “Once again, I congratulate our May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth, and Sports Day. I remember with mercy, gratitude, and respect our esteemed martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our sacred homeland, and our hero veterans who passed away during the National Struggle, especially Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.”
