One of the most in-depth analyses of the history of the French Revolution, The 1789 French Revolution, has been published under the imprint of İnkılâp Kitabevi. This work meticulously examines the causes, key figures, and consequences of the revolution, serving not only as a history book but also as a guide to understanding the dynamics of social change.
Lefebvre’s The 1789 French Revolution, which examines the revolutionary process by dividing society into four main classes, has taken its place on bookstore shelves under the İnkılâp Kitabevi label. The book categorizes society into aristocracy, bourgeoisie, common people, and peasants, analyzing each class’s contribution to, expectations from, and gains from the revolution in great detail. The work challenges shallow perspectives that treat the revolution as a mere event that “just happened.”
Answering questions such as “Who Led the Revolution? Who Betrayed It? Who Fought in It?” this book explores the French Revolution not just as a political event but also as a popular movement. How did the revolution begin, how did it unfold, and ultimately, how did it shape world history? All these questions are addressed in this work with meticulous research and a compelling narrative.
The 1789 French Revolution is not only a must-read for history enthusiasts but also a masterpiece that should be in the library of anyone interested in understanding social transformations.

Renowned for his research on the French Revolution, Georges Lefebvre presents a unique account of the French Revolution in this work. In the foreword written by Michel Biard and Hervé Leuwers, rather than focusing solely on the book’s significance, they discuss its extraordinary journey. Nearly all copies of the book were burned and banned during the Nazi occupation of France. However, like a traveler, the book was printed, read, and even made its way back to its author in distant parts of the world. For a long time, the book was absent from France, but after the occupation and in more humane times, it was finally republished.
