After the great destruction experienced in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, Istanbulites who remembered the 1999 earthquake again sought to leave the city.
Real estate expert Gülcan Altınay said, “Istanbul residents, frightened by the recent earthquakes, turned to search for alternatives. Demand for Edirne and Kırklareli increased due to its distance from the fault line and close proximity to Istanbul. Many citizens living in Istanbul started to rent warehouses in Edirne and Kırklareli.
It is stated that earthquake migration has started from many districts such as Avcılar, Beylikdüzü, Bağcılar, Sefaköy, especially Kadıköy, where the old buildings are concentrated, to Edirne, Kırklareli. It is noteworthy that some people do not take their belongings with them when they leave the city, due to moving to a family or smaller houses, and therefore the occupancy rate in the warehouses has increased.
“THE EXIT FROM ISTANBUL IS AT THE HIGHEST OF 20 YEARS”
Real Estate Specialist Gülcan Altınay, who said that the number of people who wanted to leave the old building and give their belongings to the warehouse increased after February 6, said, “While 2-3 people a week were calling me to rent a warehouse in the past, now this number has increased to 30-40 people in the last week. Citizens who do not take their belongings and rent warehouses can stay in smaller areas for a more affordable price or stay with their parents,” he said.
Saying that their phones do not go silent, Altınay says that those who call from the surrounding and certain parts of our country are asking for land for sale, rented land, flats and warehouses. A migration started towards our region. We are seeing an activity that has not been seen in the past, and in the last 20 days, houses and lands have been sold to approximately 2,000 people from Istanbul who want to settle in our city.” he said.
Stating that they observed an increased interest of investors in the Organized Industrial Zone, Altınay said that new applications for investment were received.
